Race Route

The route is over mixed terrain. Less than a mile in to the race, the route takes you through woodland by way of a narrow rough path. This is a fun part of the course however care should be taken picking your way along this path. The ascent up the summit from the corrie is steep and craggy but a route can be picked through. The summit loop is designed to limit the number of runners passing each other. A fast and steep descent off the summit follows the main path back into the corrie. Runners return to the campsite by an alternate route which is suited to fast downhill running.

Prizes
There will be prizes for the first three female and first three male finishers. Age category prizes are as follows 40-49, 50- 59, 60-69, and +70. First senior male (3 counters) and senior female (2 counters) teams will win a prize. There will also be prizes for any course records.

Insurance and Safety
The race is a Scottish Hill Runners (SHR) hill race and is covered by their insurace. Click here for a read of the SHR insurance policy and the safety rules and guidelines which apply for the Beinn Resipol hill race. Kit checks will take place at registration. The minimum kit requirement is a map (printout), a compass, full body cover and a whistle. All runners must be present for the safety briefing at the race start.

Getting to Ardnamurchan
Take the A82 to the Corran ferry. Take the short ferry crossing to Ardgour then follow the A861 to Strontian and continue on the A861 for another 7 miles along the single track road to your destination of the campsite located here. Resipole is around a 3 hour drive from Glasgow, and just over an hour from Fort William. Race start postcode is PH36 4HX.

Contact organisers
The race is organised by David Houston, his wife Claire Houston-Perrie and Resipole Holiday Park managers Karin Schuler and Rory Sinclair. However, we’d be lost without all the local help we receive which makes the race a success, special mention to the Resipole community (Sinclairs, MacKays, Houstons, Gillespies, Jacksons, Barry+Sue, Ilanora, Burtons, Eynons), Ewen’s Room volunteers, Ard walkers, and Shettleston Harriers. If you’re reading this and want to help out on the day please email us. David and Claire live in Glasgow and run with Shettleston Harriers. David’s parents live in Resipole and – having ran the route countless times – he thought the scenery and terrain on offer should be enjoyed by runners from across the UK and beyond.

If you have any questions please contact the organisers at benresrace@gmail.com or through our Facebook Page. You can follow us on twitter @benresrace.

  2. Hi Dave. Just been having a wee read at all this and it looks really excellent. Also thank you for the kind words about Ewen’s Room. Like you guys, Ewen was into all things outdoors, as are so many of his friends. So I will be spreading the word about the race and hope that some of them will appear!
We are in the process of updating the Ewen’s Room website at the moment. Well, it is actually his good friend, Jenny, who set it up as a surprise for us, who is working on it. She came to see us here at the weekend and went away with loads of ideas/plans. Will update you ASAP with details.
However folk can have a look at http://www.ewensroom.org.uk to find out more about Ewen, and our Ewen’s Room Facebook page is up and running, so folk can follow us on there.
Heading homeward at the weekend, so see you soon!
